Navigeren in de zee van informatie: de koers van open data

Hoe moeten we navigeren  in de zee van informatie? Hoe laveren we tussen de klippen van ‘big data’, ‘business intelligence’, ‘analytics’, ‘smart’ en ‘sustainability’? Wat is de koers van open data? Vele vragen die op komen rond open data.

Open data is ‘cool’ of  ‘hot’, maar voor wie, waar en wanneer? Men zegt dat  de overheid  transparanter kan werken. Dat data kan worden hergebruikt door overheden en marktpartijen. Dat open data uitgelezen mogelijkheden biedt rondt ‘healthy ageing’, ‘lifelines’, ‘sensor city’, ‘energy valley’.

Maar waar is de burger? Mag deze zelf balanceren tussen privacy en veiligheid? Hoe (be)sturen en ondersteunen we in een samenleving die wil decentraliseren en vrijlaten en tegelijk regie zoekt en vraagt rond zorg en welzijn, rond innovatie, rond krimp en werkgelegenheid?

Vele vragen zijn te beantwoorden door te kijken naar waartoe, wat, hoe en waarmee. Juiste antwoorden gaan uit van de persoonlijke maat, processen op de juiste schaal en participatie vanaf het begin. Dan staat de burger centraal, open voor keuzes.

For over 40 years prof. dr. Henk G. Sol has been a driver of engaged scholarship in the field of information systems and decision enhancement. With his school of nearly 80 PhD dissertations supervised and some 20 PhD dissertations under way, he is a major contributor to building the foundations of design science research in management and information systems.
In addition, he has been responsible for the graduation of over 800 MSc and MBA students in Engineering and Business. All dissertations are based on theory development applied to tackle issues that matter in practice and are relevant to both developing and developed countries.
As founding dean he has established the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at Delft University of Technology and the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
Prof. Sol has organized numerous international conferences and workshops, of which the conference series on CRIS and Dynamic Modeling have been seminal. He has published widely in renowned journals, edited many books, and given many keynote presentations all over the world. He has held editorial positions in various journals in the field. He has acted as a consultant to many governments and organizations worldwide. He is founding father of IFIP TC8, 8.1 and 8.3, AIS and many(inter)national doctoral consortia.
Henk G. Sol has fulfilled supervisory functions in many organizations. He serves currently in various academic and professional roles: President of the Supervisory Board of Groningen Airport Eelde NV, Eelde; Director of Sol Information Management BV, Haren; Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Uganda Technology and Management University, Kampala; Chairperson of Stichting PAO Informatica; Consulting Professor of PBLQ, The Hague; and Member of the Board of Trustees of the International Institute for Communication and Development, The Hague.
